The Brandenburg Gate was built after plans of Carl Gotthard Langhans in 1788. Its architectural paradigm are the ancient Propylaes of the Acropolis in Athens. Today it is the most important landmark of Berlin.

The Red Townhall of Berlin (German: Rotes Rathaus) was built between 1861 and 1869 by Hermann Friedrich Waesemann. Today it is the seat of the Berlin government.

Between river Spree and Kupfergraben lies the world-famous museum island of Berlin.
Its buildings host the archeological collection and
the exhibition of 19th century art. At the top of
the island is the ''Bodemuseum'', in front of this the
''Pergamonmuseum'' with the famous Ishtar Gate, the
''Alte Nationalgalerie'' (right), the ''Neue Museum'' and the ''Alte Museum''.
