The Middle Atlas is the westernmost part of the Atlas Mountains chains and covers an area of about 23000 square kilometres. Snow persists in the Middle Atlas in the winter above 600 metres.

South of the Atlas Mountains begins the Sahara Desert, endless yellow planes with only a few green oasis. There was no one else on our radio frequency - called ''Desert Control''. We are alone here.

The route to Er Rachidia and from there to Ouarzazate is part of the Dakar Rally, the famous off-roade endurance race.
