on earth. Nonstop gas explosions throw lava over the
crater rim. Big eruptions are seldom. The volcano
island rises 3000m above the Thyrrenian Sea.
Despite the constant volcanic activities the Stromboli island is populated.

Mount Vesuvius is still an active volcano. Since the
well-known eruption in 79, where Pompeii and Herkulaneum have been destroyed, it erupts unregularily. The last remarkable eruption happened in 1944.
