The ''Pfaueninsel'' (Peacocks Island) was bought by Frederik Wilhelm II in 1793. He initiated a menagery and a zoo there. At the end of the 18th century he placed the order for a castle for Countess Lichtenau
at this place.

The Kurfürstliche Schloss of Bonn was build as a residence of the prince-electors of
Cologne in the first half of the 18th century. Nowadays it is the main building of the University of Bonn.
