Church St. Nikolai at Alter Markt is the most significant building in Potsdam. Its cupola can
be seen from all directions. After the old church
burned down in 1795 this new church was built in 1830 after plans of Karl Friedich Schinkel.

The Chinese House in the garden of Sanssouci in Potsdam was commissioned by Frederich the Great of Prussia to beautify his garden ensemble. The European Royal Houses became interested in east-asiatic arts and trades since the Dutchman started their overseas trade with China in the 17th century.
