The Alcazar of Segovia is a stone castle located on a rocky crag. It is one of the
most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape - like the bow of a ship. It was built as a fortress, but served as royal palace and state prison.

The Roman Aqueduct was built during the 1st century BC to bring water from the Frio River which is about 18km away from the city. It is made of 400 large granite blocks joined with mortar or clamps. Its maximum height is 28 meters.

The old city of Segovia contains a wealth of monuments: the cathedral, the Roman aqueduct, the Alcazar and various churches in Romanesque style. The city is surrounded by walls from the 10th century BC.
