The first palace of Blois was built in the 9th century. Later it was often extended and reconstructed. About 1500 King Louis XII initiated
the reconstruction to a Renaissance Palace with a large garden (which does not exist anymore).
Remarkable is the helix staircase in the main wing of the palace.

Talcy Castle is situated a bit offside the Loire valley tourism. Among the curiosities preserved from the 16th century are a presshouse, a dovecot, a traditional vegetable garden, and a ''chambre de la Médicis'' where Catherine de Medici and her son Charles IX are said to have planned the Massacre of Saint Bartholomes Day during the ''conference of Talcy'' 28 and 29 June 1572.
