West of the main palace of Sanssouci is the picture gallery and in the East the Old Orangery. The Orangery was rebuilt as residential rooms in 1771/1774.

During the East expansion of the German feudal armies the area between the rivers Saale, Elbe and Oder
was conquered. Settlers, Craftsmen and traders came from the West to the former Slaves region. The new
inhabitants built their round villages around the village green.

The New Palace (original: Neues Palais) was built
for representation purposes under Frederick the Great in the Park of Sanssouci. Frederick himself
was almost never here. Later Wilhelm II, the last
german emporer, has elected it as his most favourite
residence.
