The Pemon Indians call the Auyan Tepui ''House of the Devil''. Never any Indian climbed this Tepui. The first man who put his foot on that mountain was the pilot Jimmy Angel in 1936, who landed there.

Salto Angel is the highest waterfall in the world.
It falls down 1000m from the Auyan Tepui plateau.
The waterfall was discovered in 1936 by the bush pilot Jimmy Angel. He landed on the top, but was not able to restart. It took him 11 days to return into civilization.
