Dornburg Castles are situated above the river Saale on a steep rugged shell limestone rock. The 3 grand
ducal castles are from different epochs: gothic, renaissance and rococo. They are famous for their
marvelous gardens and the visits of Johann-Wolfgang
von Goethe, who loved the view. The foggy meadows inspired him to write the ''Erlkönig'' here.
