Blois was elected in 1498 by Louis XII to be the political center of France. The medieval castle became a delighted residence, which fitted in the new lifestyle of the French. The statue of Louis XII
adorns the main entry of Blois Castle.

The westwing of Blois Palace was built between 1635 and 1638. Gaston, brother of Louis XVIII, had to live in exil here because of his continous intrigues
against the King.
